Libra Balance Scale Mola

Libra Balance Scale Mola

This museum-quality hand-stitched mola depicts a balance scale surrounded by various symbols. The word “LIBRA” is written at the bottom of the scale. The ‘R’ looks like an ‘A’ so the word looks like “LIBAA.”
The balance scale is the kind where there are two trays, one for the weights and the other for the item being weighed. This type of scale is the one in the zodiac sign Libra. It is still commonly used in Central America.
The design for this mola may come from some kind of zodiac design graphic. The symbols would suggest that. On the other hand, we see weights in the tray on the left and three items, probably fruits, in the one on the right, as would be seen in a market.
